Orson Welles' 'The Trial' (1962)
Welles, it stuck in my memory. When it comes to setting it really is excellent. I love the derelict sets and locations. It always appeals to me. It may be because I am from Kirkcaldy where the old Linoleum factories are diminishing, and have studied in Dundee where some of the more obvious old mills sit in disrepair.
These type of settings stuck in my mind, but also the maze-like, or ultimately dream-like, way they are presented and explored in The Trial. The character has purpose, but seems lost. And this is what in essence has inspired me for the forthcoming projects. Simply, really, because the setting helps you explore the character, and this idea plays around in my imagination...

In regards to it's relevance, I feel I want to create settings for my characters, through 3D and even matte paintings, in order to composite to a high standard. The writing and tests are still undergoing, and in form my piece will be much simpler to this, but this is a good reference as to what type of setting I'd like to composite, or at least one of them.... for now, anyway....
This is an interesting opening. Especially when imagining 3D composite images used like this in a story of my own...

Generally, it is an influence of mine.
